I don’t hate ai coding tools, It’s just that using ai tools all the time feels like buying a video game and then watching peoples gameplay instead of actually playing it.
For example if I am learning how the decorator pattern works then I want to implement it and think about it while implementing. After implementation watch how it’s evolving with new business requirements. Then I get to know why it was a good decision or how it could have been done better.
Software engineering is not for everyone. You should do it only if you are truly passionate about building stuff and love the craftsmanship of it.
You can buy furniture from both RFL and Hatil. One is cheap & fast, other is expensive, handcrafted best quality. For different people preference would be different, though both of them will serve the same purposes some would choose quality over fast and cheap.
Code was cheap way before ai. You could have hired 2 juniors and probably build a prototype/MVP. Now you don’t have to hire juniors to build a prototype/MVP. You can generate it with few prompts. But the quality ie, reliability, stability, maintainability still requires human craftsmanship.
Maybe I am falling behind while others are eagerly learning how to prompt better. Maybe I am too attached to craftsmanship of softwares. Maybe I’m the most idiotic person alive today. Or maybe I’m the future everyone will need after there’s no more senior left. Only time can tell. But I’m not leaving this craftsmanship.
NB: I use ai tools, just not the way society is currently hyping about.
